Corporate Politics in PerspectiveOften enough, there are always office politics occurring everyday.
It can be backstabbing each other
or even rumours get started
Even when I worked as a promoter, there are internal politics being played by other promoters as they earn commission for each product sold. Everyone is being a hyprocrite, backstabbing each other, cutting each other's deals.
Also, there are people who are
"dogs" to the bosses, trying to "lick their boots"
In an office situation, to prevent office politics, I learnt the
4 BASIC SURVIVAL SKILLSBeing Visible
Being visible is very important as if other collegues sees me as being very open and hides nothing from them, they will have a perception of me being truthful and trustworthy. Through this, they will not "play politics" with me.
The VIPsThere are very important people in the office that we must take note of.
The Big boss's wife
and the Secretaries

The big boss's wife can be dangerous as she is the closest to the big boss. If anyone offends her, the individual may not be able to keep his job. Big boss's wife can be someone very influencial to the big boss, thus, if we maintain good relationship with her, we may be safe from office politics.
Also, maintaing good relationship with the secretaries allows us to have more opportunities to directly contact the boss. One of my teacher was telling her experience of being a secretary. She says that there was once she answered a call from a lady whom the boss do not wish to entertain, therefore she told the lady to hold on, continue with her work, and after a while told the lady that the boss is in a meeting, and is unable to attend to her.
Imagine if we have bad relationship with the secretary, she may not even put the call or message through to the boss and thus, one will not have opportunity to contact the boss by any means.
Peers and subordinates
I thought that it is really true to maintain good working relationship with peers and subordinates as "friends help, foes harm". Don't you think it is better to make more friends than enemies?
What happens when you don't like someone? Or the someone is very disliked by the rest of the class? The results from this will be
outcast of the someone from the entire class. This applies the same to an office situation. If your peers and subordinates do not like each other, it would be higher chance for you to be engaged in office politics and backstabbing.
last but no least..
OUR BIG BOSS!
The big boss is the one who calls the shot and manages most of the operations. We should maintain good ties with him, which may accelerate promotions and benefits.
I have learn that "
do not over flatter your boss". It may be seen as "licking the boots" of your boss rather than genuine compliment. If your boss sees your compliment as a form of "licking his boots",then you may leave a bad impression on him. This may affect your job promotion.
This topic taught me alot of advises. However, it teaches me one thing very important;
Do everything with genuine heart and strive well.I feel that as long as you genuinely treat others well and do not be someone who backstabs, "licking people's boots", laziness, etc., you can avoid alot of office politics in future.
